October 2006 - In the studio with new artist Kameron Ross and Backstage at the Opry

Everyone knows that Kelly Lang is an accomplished singer and songwriter but you may not know that she is also an excellent and experienced producer who loves working with new singers. She says that she is always looking for new talent and enjoys working with artists who are just starting, especially when she feels safe in confidently predicting that they will have long and successful careers. In the past few months, she has worked with two such artists.

In July she was in the studio with talented newcomer Crystal Sands, from Baltimore, Maryland, and two weeks ago she was back in the recording studio with another new artist; this one from Houston, Texas, Kameron Ross (shown in photo at left).

Kelly, an accomplished oil painter who generates the bulk of her income from her art, says that, for her, producing an album is akin to painting because "both start with little more than a creative concept. You begin a painting with a blank canvas, add colors and textures to create a picture and with an album, you begin with a new voice; you give it words and music, add instruments and alternative sounds and create a unique musical portrait." However, she is quick to point out that, just as a painting requires quality components to produce a quality piece of art, the same applies to an album. For the end result to be a palatable success, it requires that the producer has quality ingredients to create with.

The first time Kelly wore a producer's hat was quite some time ago when, inspired by the birth of her first child, she wrote and recorded nine lullaby's. The songs became her first full music album, titled *Lullaby Country. After a long break devoted to raising her two daughters, Kelly decided to get back into the studio. In 2004 she co-produced on a country album appropriately titled It's About Time. Kelly also wrote nine of the twelve songs on that album and one of them, "Down on My Knees" went straight to number one on the Christian music charts. Just a few months later, she went back into the studio to co-produce on T.G. Sheppard's, Timeless album.

Kelly always has her ears open for new talent and is happy to provide solicited advice. She sees helping new artists as a way to repay all of the folks who have helped her to get to where she is today. Her ultimate goal is to own her own recording studio.

*Lullaby Country is now available in CD and Kelly is pleased to be able to say that, in addition to being able to purchase this album through this website, you will soon be able to purchase it through Cracker Barrel Restaurants across the country.
